On the board of directors at Connecting from the Heart
On November 15, 2024, Laura Dubois, founding member of wellness nonprofit Connecting from the Heart asked me to join their board of directors. I accepted this opportunity to serve a new community of people who are providing support for individuals who are experiencing challenges to their inner peace.
On the Cusp of Winter
Despite the oncoming winter season with its chilly temperatures and rainy days, I am still experiencing nature. The black-capped chickadees, scrub jays, stellers jays, and a spunky hummingbird visit our backyard feeders on a daily basis. The hummingbird arrives alone. The jays sometimes come as a mated pair, and the chickadees arrive as a group, taking turns eating seeds and peanuts in shells, depending on beak size.
The birds feed me too. Inspired by their energy, I have resolved to be outdoors with nature as much as I can fit outdoor excursions into my schedule. That’s my big news announcement. The weather will be a challenge, but as someone once said, “There is no bad weather, only inappropriate gear.”
Forest Bathing Instructor Certification
Since first reading about shinrin yoku “forest bathing” in The Nature Fix by Florence Williams I have been fascinated by this method of nature connection. I went on two forest-bathing walks led by an arborist and one walk led by a person who told her group that being with trees helped her heal from a traumatic brain injury.
All three experiences resonated well with me. I look forward to become a certified forest bathing instructor and to leading walks with people of all ages in this peaceful, regenerative practice.
